Lately, the term AuDHD has been gaining traction online—but what exactly does it mean, and why does it resonate with so many people?
What Is AuDHD?
AuDHD refers to individuals who are both autistic and have ADHD. While Autism and ADHD are distinct diagnoses, they often overlap—both in traits and in lived experience. Research suggests that between 50% and 70% of autistic individuals also meet the criteria for ADHD.
As a therapist, I'm hearing more and more clients ask questions like:
"I feel like I don't fit the mold for someone with ADHD. Is it possible I'm also autistic?"
"Why does my brain feel scattered one moment and hyper-focused the next?"
