Frequently Asked Questions
Do you Take Insurance?
In order for me to focus more completely on you and your needs, I do not accept insurance. However, I will provide you with the necessary paperwork to receive reimbursement for an out-of-network provider. Payment for services is due at the beginning of each session unless we have made other arrangements.
There are several reasons I do not participate in insurance panels, including:
Insurance companies do not recognize levels of specialization or training quality in providers
Insurance companies require a formal diagnosis to be kept on record, which compromises client privacy
Insurance companies often restrict the number and frequency of sessions, which limits a provider’s ability to meet the individual needs of the client and limits the provider’s ability to provide quality care
Insurance companies compromise access to care due to delays in approvals, administrative burden on providers, as well as delays in provider reimbursement
Do i have to commit to multiple sessions?
Dr. Amy Vail’s “concierge approach” to her patients and therapy allows people to be in charge of the frequency and duration of their therapy sessions.
By not accepting insurance or billing your insurance company, insurance companies can not dictate the parameters of your therapy or your relationship with me, your therapist. This approach allows Dr. Amy Vail to be available to you, without having to wait for preauthorization or requiring personal information to be divulged about you to your insurance company. Your healing journey is under your control, respects your pace, and is tailored to meet your individual needs. This concierge-family practice approach to therapy, allows Dr. Vail to be available to her patients over the years.
I’d like for you to work with my child/children, how does that process work?
It is my privilege to work with teenagers and children. If you would like me to work with your children or your family please fill out the intake document for your child(ren). This form must be completed and signed by BOTH legal guardians. If you have sole custody or sole legal custody, please provide a copy of the legal court document. Once these forms are received, we schedule an initial PARENTS ONLY appointment. After the initial appointment with the parent or parents, we can schedule a time for your child to meet with me. These appointments can be in person or virtual.
How long do session last?
Most sessions are 45 minutes. However, longer or shorter sessions are also available.
do you meet with clients in person or virtually?
Both! In the intake form, I ask whether or not you prefer to meet in person, by phone, or virtually. Virtual sessions are by Zoom. A hybrid approach is common, with some in-office sessions and some virtual sessions.
i don’t live in california, can i still work with you?
Yes! I work as “a coach” with clients who live all over the world. As a coach, these sessions can not be submitted to your health insurance.
